A high point in the sport utility market is the Lexus LX570. In 2008 Lexus rolled out an upgraded version of the LX570 with one versions: Base. Sales for the LX570, especially the LX570 Base, were brisk during 2008 and 2009. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.

2008 Lexus LX570 Base Specs

The restyled LX570 Base is equipped with a 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The i-Force engine is mated to a Toyota six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The LX570 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by air front springs and air in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2008 LX570 is a traditional SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 24.60 gallons.

The LX570 is 196.50 inches long, 77.60 inches wide, and 75.60 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 112.20 inches. It is able to seat 8 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the LX570 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $73,800 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $64,206. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

MPG Ratings

The 2008 LX570 gets 18 miles/gallon on the highway and only 12 in the city. This is below average for a sport utility truck.

In 2007 and 2008 the LX570 Base was availble in the exterior colors of Black Onyx, Golden Almond Metallic, Mercury Metallic, Noble Spinel Mica, and Twilight Gray Metallic. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.

Parting Shots

There are several reasons why the Lexus LX570 Base sold well in 2008. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Lexus, specifically a LX570.
